It’s been four months since I returned to real estate, and honestly, it still feels a little unreal. Before this, I tried freelancing for a while, and while the salary was the highest I had ever earned, I realized that a bigger paycheck didn’t make me happy. Every day felt like my energy was being drained. There was almost no human interaction, and the atmosphere felt like a world full of people just going through the motions without really connecting, simply existing. I felt like an NPC.
That made me think back to my previous job as a real estate agent helping people find monthly lodgings in Tokyo. It was fun and fulfilling. I got to explore different properties with clients, and I genuinely enjoy seeing how spaces are laid out and how interiors are designed. And then I explored other opportunities…that’s when I realized what I really love doing. Real Estate is like a never-ending puzzle I always try to solve. New chapters are getting unlocked as I step up, and my brain cannot get enough of it.
So imagine my joy when I went back to real estate. This time, it was a different side of the field. I’m now part of the sales team, helping foreigners buy their first homes in Tokyo or anywhere in Japan, really. I didn’t even know this was a passion of mine, but sometimes it feels like it has been one of my dreams all along. Real estate has always been part of my life. As a kid, I would tag along with my mom whenever she looked for properties to buy or when I helped her manage her real estate business. I also remember always being curious about what the inside of houses looked like whenever we passed by. I even thought I wished I could be invisible so I could go inside unnoticed. Even in my free time, I would scroll through listings to see homes and how much they cost. Now, actually helping clients and exploring real properties in Tokyo, it still feels a little like a dream.
This week had a little bit of everything. I was supporting a new foreign client, exploring Shimokitazawa, and enjoying simple things like cherry blossoms, butter chicken curry, and a quick dog café stop that gave me ideas for Nova’s next haircut. I wanted to share a little peek into one of those days that reminded me why I love real estate.
My new foreign client owns a law firm and comes to Japan often for work. She’s looking for a condo with a pretty tight budget but has a soft spot for the Minato area. I gently explained that Minato Ward is one of the most upscale areas, which means finding something affordable could be tricky. She thanked me for sharing that insight, and it felt really nice to help her manage expectations. It reminded me how valuable all those hours I spent watching Tokyo real estate videos in my free time really are.
After our talk, I mentioned I was heading to a property viewing in Shimokitazawa, which I’ve been excited to explore more. She shared her schedule for next month, and we are already planning more viewings together when she’s back. I really enjoy building those early connections with clients
Finally, it was time for the viewing in Shimokitazawa. I had heard so much about this trendy area with its vintage shops and artistic vibe, and I was excited to see it for myself. The condo wasn’t exactly what I had expected at first since it’s an older property, but my client absolutely fell in love with it. It’s on a high floor with beautiful corner windows and is currently the most affordable condo in the area. The seller is relocating to Thailand soon, which likely explains the price

On my way to the viewing, I had one more surprise—hanami! The cherry blossoms were in full bloom along the street, and I couldn’t help but stop and take in the beauty of it all. It was a peaceful moment amidst a busy day, and I’m so glad I was able to see more cherry blossoms this year.

Though it was the first property we saw, my client was ready to put in an offer right then and there. But because it was our first viewing, I suggested we take a bit more time to explore. I did some additional research and shared other listings in Koenji as well. Koenji is another area they love and I’ve been wanting to visit, so fingers crossed I can check it out soon!
After the viewing, I made the most of my one-hour lunch break. I was craving butter chicken curry, so I ventured to a cozy spot near the station. I was lucky enough to be the only customer at the time, so I could relax and enjoy my meal in peace.

And then came my favorite surprise of the day: a quick stop at a dog café! They let you pop in for 10-minute visits—perfect if you just need a little dog fix. One of the Shih Tzus there was so cute and had the fluffiest little haircut—it actually inspired me for my dog Nova’s first trimming at the end of this month. Can’t wait to see her all styled up!

After that, I grabbed a donut from Mister Donut for my 5 PM snack (my little daily ritual) and saved it for when I got back to the office. A sweet little reward after a productive afternoon.

Once I was back at the office, I enjoyed my donut in peace, savoring each bite as I took a much-needed break from the hustle. There’s something about these little indulgences that makes a busy day feel more enjoyable. It was the perfect treat after a productive afternoon of property viewings and client meetings, helping me recharge for the rest of the day ahead.
And then… work is over! I joined some colleagues in our office lounge for drinks. It’s one of my favorite ways to end the day, especially on a Tuesday night, which feels like our “Friday night” in real estate since Wednesday is our day off. We were also celebrating a bit of a welcome party for our new coworker who just joined us last weekend. With free beers available in the office, it was a perfect opportunity to relax, share some laughs, and unwind. These moments with the team, especially after a busy day, always remind me that it’s not just about the work—it’s about the connections we make along the way. It’s the simple joys, like good company and great conversation, that make everything feel balanced and warm.

Now, I’m home, spending some quality time with my two dogs—celebrating my puppy’s 11-month milestone and my senior dog’s 13th birthday. Tomorrow promises more sunshine, so I’m planning to get out there and enjoy the sakura while it lasts.
Being a real estate agent in Tokyo isn’t just about showing properties—it’s about connecting with people, discovering hidden gems, and making memories along the way. I can’t wait to see what the next day will bring!
